Beach Cabana (as Project Manager for Guerin Glass Architects)
East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico
The 600 SF cabanas elevate the recognizable image of a hastily crafted beach shack. Two primary elements, an interior volume and a protective skin, slip past one another. The weathered wood screen provides shading and privacy without obscuring the primary views and creates a dramatic play of light and shadow. The beach-facing façade opens completely to transform the main living space into an indoor/outdoor sunroom. The cabana sits as lightly as possible on the beach landscape to allow for the flow of sand, water, and wildlife below its deck.
