Beach Pavilion at Costa Palmas (as project manager for Guerin Glass Architects)
East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico
The Beach Pavilion is the social companion to the cabanas and provides beach goers with an iconic but unimposing gathering point and launch pad for excursions, a casually sophisticated incarnation of the toes-in-the-sand, just-stumbled-upon beach bar.
A roof of local ‘pata de cabra’ latilla, strategically patterned and layered for shade and maximum play of sun and shadow, floats over the wood deck and minimal enclosure housing the restroom, shower, and small kitchen. The two horizontal planes frame the vast horizon line and Sierra de la Laguna mountains to the northwest.
